KJ Apa is Samoan & Kiwi (Kiwi= New Zealander*). His father is Samoan & his mother is Kiwi.
At age 17, KJ got a tattoo with designs that represent his family when he traveled to Samoa. The designs come from the village of Moat’a.
When KJ was a kid, he would go play his guitar out on street corners around his house in Auckland.
He’s the youngest of three children in his family. He has two older sisters, Timena & Ari.
In addition to acting, KJ sings, writes songs & plays guitar. He sometimes brings one of his guitars with him while he’s off on location shooting movies/TV shows.
At 14 years of age, KJ recorded a solo guitar album.
Aside from playing guitar, KJ also plays piano and drums.
His other hobbies include skateboarding, dancing (Hip Hop) and American Football.
KJ had to dye his hair orange for Riverdale. In an interview with MovieFone, KJ said it took 10 hours in the salon to get the right “shade of orange”. He had to dye it every two weeks while shooting The CW’s series.
KJ is rumored to have tested for the role of Red Ranger in 2017’s Power Rangers reboot.
KJ released his debut album at age 14, in 2012. The album is titled “The Third Room”.
